So you’ve finally got the ring and after all the excitement of announcing to the world that you are engaged, the stress hits you and you’re asking yourself what’s next?

I have been there and it can quickly become overwhelming when you start to list out all of the tasks you have to accomplish when planning a wedding. I hope to alleviate some of the stress and that is why I started How To Weddings as a place where brides can come for advice, quick tips, and check out some vendor reviews to help them in their journey of wedding planning.

Choosing the right vendors can be one of the most stressful parts of wedding planning but knowing these tips can not only save you time but most importantly money! 

Tip #1 Secure your dates

Before you start getting down to the details, you will want to secure a date and make sure the date(s) work with both sides of the family especially if you have family that will be traveling from far to attend. Keep in mind the weather around the time when you are planning to have your wedding, this will come in handy when picking your outfits. Also keep in mind that you may have to adjust these dates when you’re looking into venues in case the venue you have your heart set on is booked for that date.

Tip #2 Do your research

This is one of the most important tips I can share with brides while planning. Do as much research as you can and start a list for each category of vendors. This list can include what services they offer, what you like about this vendors work, and any other details you will want to remember when possibly meeting with them. Since most vendors you will be able to find on social media platforms, it will be easier to see their work and differentiate between what they can offer to you. Make sure to check out previous weddings they have done and take note of what you like or maybe even dislike. Lastly, I suggest asking people who have worked with a particular vendor for their personal experience working with them.

Tip #3 Set up meeting and trials with potential vendors

Once your list of vendors is made, start contacting vendors to set up meetings to discuss the vision you have for your wedding and ask questions you may have about their services. I cannot tell you how many meetings I set up where I felt like I was being talked into something I didn’t want; so be sure to come in to these meetings with an idea of what you envision and the right vendors will be able to come up with a plan to execute it for you.

Tip #4 Know your budget & stick to it

Once your vendors have an idea of what services you need/want, they can come up with a breakdown of costs and this is when you will need to decide what stays or what goes. Wedding costs can quickly add up but verbalizing your budget to the vendors will definitely help them to come up with a plan that works best for you. This is also when you can come up with ideas to keep your costs low such as using fake flowers instead of fresh and DIY some decor pieces.

Tip #5 Do what makes you happy and don’t settle

I know this tip may sound like common sense to most of you but from my experience, you will get overwhelmed with the opinions of others. Please don’t lose sight of the vision you have and don’t let anyone talk you out of what you want. If you are going to ask for opinions from family members, limit it to only one or two close people because any more than that is going to stress you out! This also goes for when meeting with vendors, you will meet with some that will try to talk you out of an idea or try to sway you in a different direction but if your heart is set on something stick to it. Trust me there are vendors out there that are willing to make your crazy ideas come to life.
